Data federation example 1. Previously we wrote about data federation. This article will give an example of data federation in healthcare. The example is a product / initiative of an Estonian company called Guardtime. Guardtime is a technology company building innovative products based on blockchain technology.
They have a range of products, but one in particular is RWDE, or real world data for healthcare. Here is a whitepaper which details the approach that Guardtime has planned to use to make healthcare data available:

The linked whitepaper details Guardtime’s approach, which is to serve as a federated database for healthcare data. For example, in Sweden, there are many hospital systems, each with its own database or databases. If you require data across the whole of Sweden, you would need to interface with each of these individual databases.
Guardtime proposes creating a federated database, in which they will build out the infrastructure to interact with each of the databases in the Swedish healthcare ecosystem and provide that data to their customers using a common interface (API).
